Julie Davis is reportedly leaving her post in protest over dwindling aid to Kiev
Acting US Ambassador to Ukraine Julie Davis will leave her post over disagreements with President Donald Trump regarding his waning support for the country, the Financial Times has reported, citing three people familiar with the matter.
The State Department has confirmed Davis' departure but denied that she was leaving because of differences with the president.
"Ambassador Davis has been a steadfast proponent of the Trump administration's efforts to bring about a durable peace between Russia and Ukraine," State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott said in a statement on Tuesday. He added that Davis will depart Kiev in June.
Davis has served as charge d'affaires in Ukraine since May 2025, following the resignation of her predecessor, former Ambassador Bridget Brink, who accused Trump of "appeasement" toward Russia.
"Unfortunately, the policy since the beginning of the Trump administration has been to put pressure on the victim, Ukraine, rather than on the aggressor, Russia," Brink wrote in an op-ed in the Detroit Free Press shortly after resigning.
Trump has angered many in Kiev and the EU by suggesting that Ukraine may have to make concessions to Russia, including potentially ceding territory. He also criticized Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky, whom he once branded "a dictator" for refusing to hold elections.
The US mediated several rounds of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine throughout 2025, although they did not result in any breakthroughs. Trump also broke with the diplomatic boycott of Russia by hosting President Vladimir Putin in Alaska in August 2025.
