Many BRICS nations support Moscow's stance on the conflict, Georgy Borisenko has told RT India
The Middle East crisis has been caused by the aggression of the US and Israel, Russia's deputy foreign minister has said.
Georgy Borisenko told RT India in an exclusive chat on the sidelines of the BRICS Middle East and North Africa (MENA) consultations that the bloc's members discussed the situation in Iran.
"It was a very good and fruitful discussion," Borisenko told RT India on Friday. "Many of our friends supported this [Russia's] position and we hope that with joint efforts we will be able to overcome current problems in the region."
The conflict is causing hardship on a global scale due to the disruption of transportation routes and the rising prices of oil and gas, Borisenko added.
Russia believes it is a necessity for the international community, "including all BRICS members" to make their best efforts to overcome the situation, he said.
There is no quick fix to the crisis surrounding Iran, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said earlier this month. The US needs to recognize its underlying causes, including Israel's goal of destroying the country, he added.
Russia remains ready to assist in finding a solution, provided Iran's right to develop a peaceful nuclear program is upheld, Lavrov said.
The BRICS MENA meet was convened to discuss regional security, specifically focusing on stability in the Gulf.
Iran's special envoy for the Middle East, Mahdi Shoushtari, is also taking part in the conference.
