Modi, Xi, and Putin should make Trump understand the need for the conflict to end, the leading US academic has told RT
India, Russia, and China are the only powers that can combine to stop the US-Israeli war on Iran, leading American academic Prof. Jeffrey Sachs has said.
The Middle East conflict has to be stopped by "grown-ups," he told Afshin Rattansi on the New Order program aired on RT.
"There are only three grown-ups in this world right now to stop this, and they should stop this together," Sachs, the director of the Center for Sustainable Development at Columbia University, said.
"Prime Minister [Narendra] Modi, President Xi Jinping, and President Vladimir Putin. They are the leaders of the other three superpowers of the world," he added.
He said the leaders of these countries have a stake in the world not imploding.
Sachs also said that part of Israel's political leadership is in a "6th-century BC" mentality.
"My view is that the only ones who can do this are the BRICS," he said when asked about Pakistan'sreportedattempt to broker peace.
"One should not be a friend of [Israeli Prime Minister] Benjamin Netanyahu, right now. India, as a great country and a superpower, should not be aligning with Israel, which has just committed a genocide in Gaza" Sachs added.
"This is not a friendship, a strategic alliance, or a partnership," he said, referring to India's ties with Israel. "This is not in India's interests."
Sachs said India has the stature to say no to what he termed as "American delusions," adding, "But I am suggesting that India do this together with Russia and China, with Brazil, with other BRICS countries."
Sachs cited India's BRICS presidency as the main reason it is a candidate to broker peace. "Second, it isn't pleasant dealing with Donald Trump... so it is better to do it together with partners."
He said India's ties with Iran also go back a long way, making it an ideal mediator.
Sachs described Western countries as "owned and operated" by the US, and said India should not repeat the line of these "vassal states."
