The attack hit a residential building in Yaroslavl Region; the parents were severely wounded, the governor has said
A child was killed and the parents were critically wounded after Ukrainian drones damaged a residential building in Russia's Yaroslavl Region, around 250 km northeast of Moscow, the regional governor has said.
In a statement on Saturday morning, the Russian Defense Ministry said that a total of 155 Ukrainian drones were intercepted overnight across 17 regions, predominantly the western part of the country.
Yaroslavl Governor Mikhail Yevrayev wrote on Telegram that the area came under a powerful attack, stating that the air defenses and electronic warfare neutralized over 30 drones over the region.
"One child was killed, who was in one of the private residential buildings in a rural area... His parents were hospitalized in serious condition," he wrote, reporting damage to other premises in the area, with a woman in a neighboring building also injured.
Yevrayev added that all the necessary assistance and financial compensation would be provided.
Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said two drones were shot down on the approaches to the capital, with emergency services deployed to debris sites. Explosions and a fire were also reported near the city of Vyazma in Smolensk Region, 230 km west of Moscow, according to SHOT Telegram channel.
Samara Region Governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev said Ukraine made "an unsuccessful attempt to attack" the region, with no casualties or damage to residential or public buildings reported. Airspace restrictions were subsequently lifted.
Ukraine has regularly launched drones deep into Russian territory, targeting civilian buildings and critical infrastructure. Moscow has called the raids "terrorism." Russia has retaliated with large-scale attacks on Ukraine's defense-related infrastructure, including the power grid. It maintains that it never targets Ukrainian civilians.
