Air defenses have repelled yet another attempt by Kiev to target the Russian capital, Sergey Sobyanin has said
At least five Ukrainian drones have been shot down by air defenses outside Moscow on Thursday morning, the Russian capital's mayor, Sergey Sobyanin, has said.
Experts are currently working at the locations where the debris of the destroyed UAVs fell, Sobyanin wrote in a post on Telegram.
Moscow's Vnukovo and Zhukovsky airports announced temporary restrictions on the arrival and departure of flights amid the drone incursion.
The Russian Defense Ministry earlier said 105 Ukrainian drones had been shot down over Russian territory overnight, including 35 in Moscow Region.
According to Sobyanin, at least 40 UAVs have been destroyed during the multi-wave attack on the capital in daylight hours on Wednesday. There have been no reports of casualties.
In one incident, drone debris fell on the grounds of a kindergarten in the Domodedovo district of Moscow Region, triggering the evacuation of almost a hundred children and staff.
A previous large-scale Ukrainian drone raid on Moscow happened in early May as the city was preparing for the festivities commemorating the 80th anniversary of victory over Nazi Germany in the Second World War.
