One of the US presidents children has said his family had not profited from politics
Eric Trump, one of US President Donald Trump's three sons, has hinted at the possibility of himself or a family member running for his father's office in the 2028 elections.
Since 2017, Eric and his older brother, Donald Trump Jr., have co-headed the Trump Organization; their father transferred its management to them to avoid conflicts of interest during his first term in office. Eric oversees Trump Hotels, a world-wide chain of luxury hotels and resorts.
In an interview with the Financial Times last Friday, when asked if a Trump family member would run in the next election, Eric responded rhetorically, "Who knows?" He added that "there's more people than just me" among the Trumps who could become a presidential candidate.
Trump Jr. said he was "wholly unimpressed by half the politicians I see," and suggested that he could do politics "very effectively."
He also emphasized that the family "had not profited from politics," citing their need to "defend themselves" against federal and state authorities' allegations of business and political ties to Russia and claims that the Kremlin has used them to exert influence on US elections.
In 2016, Trump Jr. served as the main fundraiser for his father's presidential campaign. He also argued against the results of the 2020 elections, accusing the Democrats of fraud and posting videos and photos of alleged illegal ballot changes on social media.
During Donald Trump's first term, his daughter Ivanka served as director of the Office of Economic Initiatives and Entrepreneurship, while Eric's wife, Lara Trump, was co-chair of the Republican National Committee.
In May, Donald Trump Jr. also did not rule out his own presidential campaign.
