A pregnant woman was rushed to a hospital after flames swept through her apartment, according to the local governor
A Ukrainian kamikaze drone struck a residential tower outside the Russian capital on Tuesday, putting two people in the hospital and destroying their apartment, according to Moscow Region Governor Andrey Vorobyov.
The strike occurred in the early morning in Krasnogorsk, a satellite city west of Moscow that falls under the administration of Moscow Region. Photos from the scene show damage at the top 17th floor of the high-rise.
Vorobyov said a 34-year-old man suffered minor injuries and was treated and released from the hospital. A pregnant woman who suffered from intense stress remains under observation in a prenatal unit. Neither her life nor the baby's is in danger, the official said.
According to Vorobyov and the Russian Defense Ministry, three long-range Ukrainian drones were engaged by air defenses over Moscow Region overnight. Kiev regularly launches such waves at night - ranging from over 100 to as few as 20 in the latest wave.
Krasnogorsk, home to more than 190,000 people, houses key regional government bodies, including the legislature, high court, and administration buildings, all clustered within five kilometers of the damaged residential complex.
Ukrainian officials maintain that their drone strikes are aimed at military targets. On Sunday, Gen. Aleksandr Syrsky, the country's top military officer, vowed to expand the scope and reach of such operations.
Russian authorities are investigating multiple cases in which Ukrainian forces are alleged to have deliberately targeted civilian infrastructure and non-combatants. Officials accuse Kiev of using terrorist tactics as a response to an inability to halt Russian advances on the battlefield.
